Brand creation and platform launch for a global emerging markets investment and operations group

Imbono is a newly formed emerging markets operating company, focused on four core sectors: energy, water, food, and social infrastructure.

Expertise

Deliverables

Headquartered in Dubai with a strong footprint in Angola and Sub-Saharan Africa, Imbono works directly with governments and investors to deliver and operate projects, including power generation, water treatment facilities, and agricultural hubs. Combining global reach with a local, boots-on-the-ground presence, the business has the ambition to transform the lives of more than 100 million people by 2040 by expanding access to essential services.

As audience expectations evolved, there was increasing pressure for the business to demonstrate not just financial capability but operational expertise and real-world impact. The distinction between investor and operator was becoming more important, particularly in emerging markets, where credibility is built through delivery, local understanding, and long-term commitment. At the same time, its key audiences were becoming more diverse and distributed than ever, spanning international investors, local partners, communities, and talent. This created a need for clear, differentiated communication through a brand that could operate with authority across multiple geographies, sectors, and stakeholder groups.

From investor to infrastructure operator

The need to create a new entity was identified in order to clearly articulate the business’s operational capabilities, shifting perception beyond capital provision to reflect its role as an active developer and operator of infrastructure and industrial assets. Our challenge was to define and build a brand for this new entity that could stand independently, with its own identity and voice, while remaining strategically connected to its wider parent group.

Alongside this, there was a broader need to consider the overall brand architecture, ensuring clarity in how the different parts of the business relate to one another. Crucially, the new brand needed to resonate across both local and global audiences, balancing credibility and technical expertise with a sense of purpose, ambition and long-term impact.

A comprehensive discovery stage

Working closely with the leadership team and their PR agency, we developed the new brand from the ground up. We began with a comprehensive discovery phase, exploring the strategic ambitions of the business, its audiences and the competitive landscape.

From this, we defined a clear brand narrative centred on possibility, progress and impact, designed to capture the organisation’s role in delivering meaningful infrastructure and opportunity in emerging markets.

A central part of the project was the development of a new name. Through a structured naming process, ‘Imbono’ was selected, a name derived from the Imbondeiro tree, a symbol of African heritage, growth and resilience. We worked closely with the client team, our legal advisors and our in-house technical team to ensure that the name was usable and legally available across all key markets, and that a range of suitable domain names were available.
The Imbono brand was brought to life through a complete visual identity system, including a logo and flexible visual language, inspired by Angola’s iconic Samakaka textile print.

A complete visual identity system

Complementing the logo and graphic language, we created a bold, energetic colour palette, and developed a brand typography system based on the Pangea typeface.

Together, these elements combined to create a truly effective and distinctive visual brand identity system for Imbono.

We created a digital brand hub encompassing online guidelines and asset management for Imbono and its sub-brands, using the Frontify platform. As accredited Frontify partners, we built an intuitive, easy-to-navigate hub, enabling Imbono’s brand and marketing teams to deploy the brand consistently across key touchpoints.

From website to world stage

We translated the brand into a high-performing digital platform, designing and building Imbono’s corporate website using our Yano SaaS framework to accelerate delivery from concept to launch. It serves as a central hub for the business, clearly articulating its capabilities, showcasing its projects, and providing a scalable foundation for growth and engagement.

We also created Imbono’s brand video, which was used to launch the business both internally and externally at the 2026 World Government Summit in Dubai.

Measuring impact

Since launch, the site has shown strong levels of user engagement across both language variants, with visitors spending meaningful time on the platform, exploring multiple pages per visit and interacting with priority content. Traffic has continued to build in the months following launch, while engagement has remained consistently high, indicating that the experience is attracting more visitors without compromising the quality of interaction.
