Our Principles

Adopting a multi-channel approach, we combine strategic insight, compelling creativity and client-focused customer service to create employee, corporate and investor communications.

We have four simple principles that build long-lasting relationships and deliver great results.

We are a creative agency – an ideas and insights-led business of strategists, designers and conceptual thinkers. But first and foremost we are a customer service business which believes in providing exceptional levels of client care, always keeping client needs and project goals as the main objective.

Strength in partnerships

We work with our clients as partners. We believe that working collaboratively and sharing expertise delivers better outcomes and builds long-term, enjoyable working relationships.

Focussed teams

We don’t believe in overloading teams or adding layers of hierarchy. Doing so adds cost, delay and confusion. Small, focussed and consistent teams who draw on additional expertise when required and manage all parties is the way we like to work.

Simplicity and honesty

We have a simple and proven process that works. We are flexible and adaptable, underpinning what we do with rigorous workflows. Honesty and integrity are important to us – we don’t do ‘smoke and mirrors’. Instead we believe transparency delivers trust and reassurance which means a lot to us.

Andy May

Andy May

Managing Director

Andy is responsible for the smooth running of the studio in addition to ongoing business development and ensuring the continued delivery of service excellence for all of our clients. With over 20 years agency experience with clients that include Rolls-Royce, SAP and Anglo American, Andy also works with clients across multiple sectors to advise on the planning and delivery of integrated campaigns and communications. Outside of agency life, Andy can be found driving the family taxi or ideally getting wet on a paddle board, surfboard or boat somewhere on the Thames or the beaches of North Devon.

Ricky Sampson

Ricky Sampson

Executive Creative Director

As ECD Ricky takes overall responsibility for the creative output of the studio, ensuring we push clients conceptually whilst maintaining integrity and accuracy with their brand. Also advising clients across both investor and corporate communications, Ricky brings over 20 years of agency-side experience with clients ranging from the Department of Health and NatWest to BAE Systems and Rio Tinto. When not changing nappies and helping to look after the latest addition to his household, Ricky can be found dog walking in the countryside (and sampling a local ale or two) or pedalling up hills somewhere in Surrey with his cycling club.

Marcus Mitchell

Marcus Mitchell

Director of Strategy

Marcus brings over 20 years of experience to lead our strategic brand consultancy offer. With a BA and MM in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from Cambridge, Marcus started his research and consulting career in advertising with Ogilivy & Mather. After three years on the client side with Associated British Foods as a marketing planner he moved back to the agency world, working in brand and innovation consultancy. Prior to joining SampsonMay in 2015 he was Director of Strategy for Corporate Edge Group and has provided strategic brand consultancy for clients that include Nokia, Diageo, Saudi Aramco and Johnson Matthey. Outside of bringing brands to life, Marcus can be found cycling London, descending snow-covered mountains on a board or skis or practicing yoga on top of them.

Emiliano Bottaioli

Technical Director

Em heads up our technical team and takes responsibility for ensuring excellence in both our ongoing and future-looking technical offer. A self-confessed lover of tech and a Microsoft certified professional, Em advises clients on the architecture and implementation of their hosting environment and broader digital infrastructure. With over 15 years of experience he has delivered an extensive range of digital projects for clients that include Centrica, HSBC, BG Group, FIFA and BAE Systems. When not tinkering with technology or dabbling with the command-line, Em is being kept busy by his young family, watching films or running the streets of south east London or Italy.

Peter Furlong

Peter Furlong

Creative Director

Pete runs the design studio and performs the multi-hat-wearing role of part designer, part team leader, part strategic thinker and part ringmaster. Having initially cut his teeth in a pure digital agency, Pete has spent over 15 years working within integrated brand communication consultancies and since joining SampsonMay in 2009, is now responsible for guiding the creative studio to achieving creative excellence for clients that include Rio Tinto, GSK and Pets at Home. A self-confessed connoisseur of fine foods and wine, Pete can often be found with camera in hand and young family in tow visiting the art galleries and eateries of London or further afield.

Nick Hunt

Nick Hunt

Head of Client Services

Nick can be found at the sharp end of project delivery and is responsible for overseeing and developing excellence across our Client Services team. With a track record of delivering large integrated projects for global organisations, Nick possesses the skills to juggle the management of a FTSE Corporate Report alongside a Global Code of Conduct Campaign in 25 languages…all whilst maintaining a calm focus on achieving his clients’ communication objectives. When not meeting clients or mentoring the Client Services team, Nick can be found watching sport (he’s known to enjoy the odd game of Super Rugby or an All Blacks fixture!) or listening to loud guitars at a gig somewhere in Europe.
