Putting pets before profit

Pets at Home is the UK’s leading specialist pet retailer. The Group provides a comprehensive range of merchandise and services for customers and their pets. With a core belief that pets always come before profit, Pets at Home are acutely aware of their responsibilities to deliver the highest ethical standards for their pets in store, alongside the supply of products and services they provide.

Working with the team for our third consecutive report together, a clear objective was the need to emphasise how Pets at Home are more focused than ever on growing their specialist capabilities through recent acquisitions with a goal of achieving national coverage for specialist veterinary referrals.

To help demonstrate this business development journey, we incorporated a series of spreads – ‘A snapshot of our progress’ – which featured early within the strategic report to showcase this key messaging, with more detailed narrative provided later within the book.

We also wanted to make the CSR section clearer and more concise by creating an infographic to communicate the journey that a 'Pets at Home' pet goes on before finding a safe, healthy and happy home, another example of putting pets before profit.

This year’s report once again provided the catalyst to undertake further operational photography for use initially within the report and as an addition to the Pets at Home image library.

Alongside undertaking location photography we also created an animation to communicate key messages and themes which is used as a standalone piece but also sits within a fully responsive online report which accompanies the printed version as part of the overall reporting suite.

In line with feedback from analysts and retail investors, the online version provides a top-level overview of the Company’s performance with the ability to deliver PDF sections of the full report to provide a longer read and supporting detail.
