Currie & Brown

Showcasing a global consultancy

Currie & Brown is one of the world’s leading asset management and construction consultancies, differentiated by innovation, expertise and experience, the Group are dedicated to advising clients in all respect of the management and utilisation of their physical assets.

A truly unique and independent consultancy, the Group have grown over time to offer an extensive range of services, expertise and capabilities to meet the needs of their global clients while also providing a personable, local network that adds value at every opportunity.

Having established our reputation within the sector through the consultancy and development of a new award-winning website for Sweett Group plc, we were approached by Currie & Brown to review their existing corporate website.

At that time the Currie & Brown website offered basic delivery of content with little demonstration of capability and very poor information architecture leading to ‘hidden’ content and a problematic user experience.

Along with broader content and design issues, the site as a whole vastly underplayed the world-class business the company had become and the huge extent of its capabilities and market-leading position.

During this consultation period and as part of Currie & Brown’s strategic growth plan, they acquired Sweett Group which immediately increased the scale of the business and the need to update their digital presence.

Our brief was to completely redesign and develop the website in four languages to reflect the size and the global expansion of the group and showcase the range of projects across industries from airports to corporate headquarters, power stations to health and education, leisure and hotel facilities to transportation infrastructure.

Underlying this brief was an overarching set of objectives driven by two primary requirements to serve as both a marketing and recruitment tool worldwide.

Our starting point was to undertake a phase of extensive user experience research with audience personas and user journeys to better understand the target audiences’ needs and how they would interact with the site. A key requirement was to promote the Group’s global reach and project experience across the website and manage the underlying information architecture through categorisation by sector and location with the objective to cross-sell capabilities to clients and prospects worldwide.

Outcomes of the research phase were then incorporated into the overall user experience design, information architecture and content strategy phases. This information also influenced our recommended CMS, electing for a .net driven Umbraco platform to better handle the complex relational database requirements and ongoing multi-language websites.

The new site is built with an advanced search feature, including Google speech recognition API, interactive maps and a ‘global showcase’ bar anchored to the bottom of the browser allowing the user to access featured projects from anywhere on the site.

In addition, the needs of the HR team are met through our integration of the company’s third-party recruitment tool into the corporate site. It enables job applicants to search, filter and apply for roles worldwide through the website with all back-end functionality being managed by Currie & Brown’s third-party system. This integration also manages real-time synchronisation ensuring any new or deleted job roles are added or removed from the Group website.

From a visual perspective, we have built upon Currie & Brown’s established identity guidelines, adopting the black and white corporate images with integrated Currie & Brown crimson. However, within the project case studies themselves we have used large full screen colour pictures to showcase their work and reflect the scale and detail of the projects.

The English language site launched along with a summary Chinese version whilst a second phase of translation and population of four additional language variant sites is underway.

The site launch has received great praise both internally and with clients, partners and new customers and has delivered a really hardworking, crisp, fresh and clear site built on a foundation to support further growth and development of the business.
